Press Release: A Houston Police Department officer was asleep in his north Harris County townhome this morning when three men broke in. At least one was armed.
The officer, who was off-duty, used his service weapon to shoot the armed suspect. The invader was pronounced dead later at a hospital nearby. The other suspects fled.
The officer had been awakened by the sound of breaking glass at his residence in the 500 block of West Road near I-45. He encountered the three burglars and shot at one of them. Wearing only his underclothing, the officer chased the suspects outdoors into the townhome complex, where the armed suspect pointed a weapon at the officer. The officer fired more shots, then apprehended that suspect during a physical struggle.
Sheriff’s deputies arrived and helped the officer handcuff the wounded suspect. He was taken by ambulance to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The two other suspects ran away and are at large. There was no description of them available immediately. Anyone with information about the burglars should call 911.
