Criminal District Attorney Jack Roady announced today that a total of 11 DWI arrests were processed through the No Refusal operations based on Galveston Island during the recent St. Patrick’s Day Weekend. This represents a significant decrease from the 15 arrests processed during the single night of No Refusal operations during last year’s St. Patrick’s Day program.

Blood samples were collected in each of the 11 cases and will be submitted for analysis at the Department of Public Safety’s Crime Lab. Law enforcement agencies from across the County participated in the program.

“This year’s St. Patrick’s Day No Refusal program coincided with the last weekend of Spring Break and spanned three nights,” Roady said. “We were pleased to see that the total arrests, even over the course of three nights, were well below the number of arrests during the single night of last year’s St. Patrick’s Day program.”

“We are seeing good results from our partnerships with law enforcement agencies across Galveston County during these No Refusal operations,” Roady added. “As we continue working together to raise public awareness, we hope to help reduce the total number of drunk drivers, particularly during these peak times.”
