Charges have been filed against a suspect arrested in a fatal hit-and-run traffic accident in the 3400 block of Woodridge about 2:25 a.m. on Saturday (June 14).

The suspect, Raquel Vasquez-Hernandez (H/f, 23), is charged with four counts of failure to stop and render aid in accident involving death in the 230th State District Court.  She is accused for her role in the deaths of three people whose identities are pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.  A photo of Vasquez-Hernandez is attached to this news release.

HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant J. Roberts and Officer ?. Collins reported:

The suspect was driving a white Chrysler 300 at a high rate of speed southbound on Woodridge and, according to witnesses, ran the red light at the intersection of the South Loop East service road.  The Chrysler then struck a blue Chevrolet Cavalier traveling eastbound on the South Loop service road.  The driver and two passengers in the Chevrolet, believed to be siblings, died at the scene.  One female passenger from the Chevrolet was transported to Ben Taub General Hospital in stable condition.  Two other passengers from the Chevrolet, both males, were transported to Memorial Hermann Hospital, one in critical condition and the other with non-life-threatening injuries.  The driver (suspect) and passenger in the Chrysler fled the scene.

Later, a witness contacted police and advised of Vazquez-Hernandez’s whereabouts.  Vasquez-Hernandez was taken into custody at a family member’s residence without incident.
