It was a surprise of a lifetime when Joe Turner entered his offices located on South Wayside Friday morning.

The city department head was greeted by thunderous applause and screams of surprise.

His employees organized a surprise anniversary breakfast with a who’s who in Houston City government attending.

They celebrated Turner’s 10th year working for the city.

The former county worker was hired by former Mayor Bill White in 2004 and has stood the test of time.

Several elected officials attended the event. On that list: Wanda Adams, Mike Sullivan, David Martin, Ed Gonzales, Brenda Stardig, Michael Kubosh, and the list goes on.

Joe thanked the crowd and said he won’t be there forever but he also did not mention a date for his swan song.

Congratulations Joe!
