Congratulations to former KPRC reporter Mary Benton who officially has her own day in the city of Houston.
This is after Mayor Annise Parker and Councilman Dwight Boykins presented the veteran reporter with a proclamation Tuesday afternoon at City Hall.
Benton has been on the air for 20 years in the city before deciding to take a new position with Harris County government.
The former President of the Houston Association of Black Journalist has also raised tens of thousands of dollars for scholarships for young people in the community over the years.
Memebers of the council reflected on Benton’s award winning career by calling her a journalist with integrity and a class act.
Mary was surrounded by her family and friends as she tearfully thanked the Mayor and city leaders for their acknowledgement.
Congratulations Mary – we all very proud of you and your graceful transition.
