Houston has become the city to live in…but with that popularity comes the burden of higher rental rates.
Those rates are making it tougher for people on housing assistance to find a home.
There are at least 58,000 families receiving some form of voucher or assistance for housing in the Houston area.
Some realtors, like James Lucas of The Real Estate People, say they’re finding it tough to place voucher recipients.
This is while representatives from the Houston Housing Authority say they are working on a rate increase for vouchers in certain zip codes around the city.
Brian Gage says they’re also looking at ways of increasing the number of public housing units in Houston in the near future.
Average rent for an apartment with one bedroom in Houston is $1144 a month.
The average housing voucher is about $600 and that’s at complexes that will accept the government assistance program.
