UPDATE: 08.24.2014 @ 10:30 P.M.

On Sunday, 08.24.2014, at approximately 3:00 P.M., the manager from a “smoke shop” that was robbed on 08.21.2014, recognized the suspect in the Academy store, located in the 10300 Blk. of I-45 N. The suspect was detained by deputies until Homicide Investigators arrived on the scene. The suspect was identified as Sergio Gil H/M 22 YOA. Gil was transported to the Homicide Unit, where he confessed to committing several “smoke shop” robberies and the shooting death of Mr. Khan. Gil has been charged with Capital Murder and placed in the Harris County Jail. Gil’s mug shot photo is being withheld to allow Robbery Investigators the opportunity to complete their investigations.

Press Release: On Saturday, 08.23.2014, at approximately 8:15 P.M., a Hispanic male suspect, approximately 25 years of age, tattoos on both forearms, entered the “Farm Road 529 Smoke Shop”, located at 16247 FM 529 #B. The suspect produced a pistol, ordered the clerk to open the cash drawer and robbed the business. The suspect shot the clerk multiple times before fleeing with the cash drawer. The suspect is believed to be the same person responsible for multiple “smoke shop” robberies in the county. The clerk, Ziauddien Sharique Khan A/M 44 YOA was transported by ambulance to Ben Taub Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.  

The case is being investigated by the Harris County Sheriff’s Office Homicide Unit.
