It’s a dying breed but this independent / family owned and operated movie theater is still chugging right along in Hempstead.
The Hempstead Theater was opened back in 1978 and in 2008 Tina Fehrenbach and her husband purchased it.
They didn’t see the one screen 200 seat theater as just a business transaction but taking position of a town treasure.
The movie house is open to the public Thursdays thru Sundays with two showings each night.
The rest of the week it’s opened for private events. And with a $65,000 donation from an anonymous donor they can broadened their catalog of movies using DVDs with the new state of the art digital projector.
Gone are the days of the big reel to reel.
Now showing at Henderson Theater is the movie the Judge…like we said one movie at a time but don’t expect any slasher films.
The owners say it’s more of a family facility that’s why the prices are affordable…tell me a theater where you can get a lemonade for a dollar.
