It is now in the hands of the legislature…
Will lawmakers support a bill that will keep a papertrail on police officers for the rest of their lives?
Tuesday morning the Homeland Security and Public Safety Committee held a hearing in Austin on a bill being pushed by State Representative Borris Miles.
It calls for all Texas law enforcement agencies to retain any and all complaints on police officers forever.
Thise records would be subject to open records by the public and news media.
Miles was joined by others from the Houston area who are supporting the bill.
Opposition came from the Houston Police Officers’ Union saying the proposed law is not needed.
