The Houston Police Department wants to help you dispose of prescription drugs in a safe manner.
On SATURDAY, September 26, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., HPD, in partnership with the Mayor’s Citizens’ Assistance Office, will host eight prescription drug collection sites for the Drug Enforcement Agency’s (DEA) National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day.
Prescription drug abuse is one of the nation’s fastest-growing drug problems and many teenagers are admitting to abusing prescription pain relievers. Easy access is what makes these drugs appealing to teenagers. The majority of abused prescription drugs are obtained from a family or friend’s medicine cabinet and this take-back initiative is the best opportunity to clear out cabinets and make households safer.
HPD urges you to never throw away or flush unused or old medications, but instead utilize a take-back initiative.
This service is free, anonymous and open to all. No questions are asked. All tablets, capsules and solid dosage forms will be collected (intravenous solutions, injectables and syringes will not be accepted).
Citizens can drop off prescription drugs at the following eight locations:
1) Kingwood (Metro Park and Ride) – 3210 W. Lake Houston Parkway
2) Northeast Police Station – 8301 Ley Rd.
3) South Central Police Station – 2202 St. Emanuel
4) Westside Police Station – 3203 S. Dairy Ashford Rd
5) Southeast Police Station – 8300 Mykawa Rd.
6) Clear Lake Police Station – 2855 Bay Area Blvd.
7) South Gessner Police Station – 8605 Westplace Dr.
8) North Police Station – 9455 W. Montgomery Rd.
