The Harris County Commissioners Court will hear from Houstonian mothers tomorrow, Tuesday, May 10th, about their concerns over the continued collaboration between the Harris County Sheriff’s Office and Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE,) the resulting impacts on their families, and the effects on their communities.
They are asking for Interim Sheriff Ron Hickman to decline renewing the county’s contract with ICE, set to expire on June 30, 2016.
The contract costs the county an estimated $1.1 million per year. They will be joined by members of the Houston Beyond ICE campaign, composed of students, advocates, lawyers, faith leaders and other community members.
