(The remains of the Houston police officer were transported by escort to the medical examiner’s office in Houston)
Mayor Sylvester Turner and Houston Police Chief Art Acevedo announced this morning a Houston police officer has been killed.
That officer, whose name has not been released, died after he and another officer crashed in one of the department’s helicopters this morning.
Chief Acevedo says the helicopter known as ’75 Fox’ went down around 2 a.m. near Greenspoint Bayou.
Witnesses say they saw helicopter crash while in autorotation in 10700 block of Imperial Valley near an apartment complex.
One of the officers was transported to Hermann Memorial where he later died.
That officer (the tactical flight officer) is survived by his wife and two young children.
The pilot of the helicopter is undergoing surgery as of 6 a.m.
Acevedo says we have lost a really good man.
