PRESS RELEASE: Aundre Howard was stopped for expired registration the night of July 7, 2019, searched for weapons-none were found-and was handcuffed. Aundre took off running still in handcuffs and was quickly stopped. But the video of the incident shows a very disturbing sequence of events including HPD commands to shoot Aundre in the back and smashing Aundre’s head with handcuffs sending Aundre to the hospital.
“This is very disturbing behavior by HPD,” said civil rights attorney Randall Kallinen, “Even more disturbing is the 19 HPD shootings this year alone in which HPD refuses to release the body camera. Are there more cases of HPD officers commanding others to shoot handcuffed suspects? The public has a right to know.”
There will be a press conference outside HPD headquarters with Aundre, community members, and civil rights lawyer Randall Kallinen to talk about situation.
